Do you think language unites or divides us?

Esque la langue unit ou nous divise? If you are not a French speaker that sentence is an example of language's ability to divide us. People who do not speak the same language are often keeping distance from each other, not because they don't want to talk to each other but because they don't have the same ability of communication.
Communication brings people together, but the key of it is to understand each other, therefore if people do not speak the same language they will not be able to have an understandable conversation which going to divide them. I took time to look around my school which is a good example of diversity and I noticed that Spanish speaker will associate with one another, people from Somali will be together and I asked myself why. Therefore I came with the conclusion that language is the main reason that they associate to each other, because they have they ability to understand each other without having any misunderstanding of the language.
language is being able to communicate, if people are not able to understand one another, they will not associate with one another. In conclusion I feel that language divide us, specially when we do not speak the same language.

My Story

My Name is Jameson Leo, I am from Haiti. I have been in the United States for seven months, and I live in Minneapolis Minnesota. Coming to the States was not easy for me, because in Haiti to have a student visa you have to fill out papers and show proof of financial support. In addition, you have be accepted by the school first in order to apply for  the Visa. I was lucky enough to have a sponsor and have the process worked out. I got in the United States several months ago and everything was different from Haiti . Some of the differences were pleasant, some of them were shocking, but it was a good experience. One of the pleasant differences that I observed is the connection between parents and children. Unlike Haiti, the parents in the United States are more involved in their children's activities, such as sports and school activities. On the other hand, it was a huge cultural shock. An example is the amount of food that is served for a meal. The first time I went to a restaurant here, when the waiter brought me the food I was shocked to see how much there was and how much would be left over. In Haiti, we wouldn't have left overs because of the electricity problems and it would have been hard to keep it. Overall, I have had pleasant and shocking experiences. I do know that I am still in the process of learning.
